When we think about “park” we often think of the traditional staples: benches, trees, grass, flowers, and maybe a central element like a gazebo. This year's GMD parking day intervention challenged people to use their imagination to help us construct a different kind of park. People were invited to use colorful boxes, balloons, pool noodles, and more to help us construct a different kind of park. Each person added a new element, playing off of what others had done before them. If we do say so ourselves, the results were pretty amazing: Philly's got some imagination. Of course, it was also a huge it with the kids, a sign that we did our jobs.
Group Melvin Design is known throughout the greater Delaware Valley Region for three things: great planning, impressive design, and it's world class bocce team. This year's team, "The Official Team of John's Pawn Jawn and Prawn," made it to the semi-finals and were happy to have beat last year's rivals "The Big Labacce" on their way there. When asked to recap the season, Julie Cprek, the teams precision pallino tosser noted, "We won some games, we lost some games, but the most important things is that we pawned some jawn and ate some prawns with John."
Group Melvin Design was honored to play a role in the September 11th Memorial for Mullica Hill, Harrison Township, New Jersey. The memorial was dedicated on Saturday, September 15th.
The memorial incorporates artifacts from all three terrorist attack sites, an effort spearheaded by local Dennis Clowney, Commander of American Legion Post 452. The design includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, a stone from the crash site in Shanksville, and a piece of the Pentagon.
The firm's principal, Bob Melvin, designed the memorial at the request of the Township.
